One Summer Night

1984

Paco de Lucía’s El Sexteto (The Sextet) have been travelling the world for more than twenty years taking the latest Flamenco into the furthest corners of the world. Thanks to them Spanish music and the most avant-garde Flamenco is known, respected and admired as a product of the individual work of artists such as those playing here, putting everything into the service of the art. The style created by The Sextet has had consequences having based its rhythmical expression in Flamenco, while the accent of Latin jazz can be heard in the harmony and instrumental melodies.
Live…One Summer Night is the recorded result of the European tour of 1983, which appeared as an LP in the following year. The tour advertised “The Paco de Lucía Sextet” and this record was their recording baptism, although Paco had already three years earlier used the same format for his revelatory Solo Quiero Caminar (1981). This record was released originally in Holland and belonged to the so called “international records of Paco de Lucía”. It was released in Spain on the 29th of October 1984.
It contains five tracks which Paco had already recorded, though the live version gives them an extra dimension. The taste is served, the tumbao exploited to the maximum, showing the essence of Flamenco rhythms, the salty grace of the Andalusian way that excites everyone. The Sextet is in its greatest moment, the rapport is superb, a model to imitate for Flamenco played live, as beloved by flamencos. There are amazing, these guys.
